John Krasinski surprised fans of A Quiet Place when his character Lee Abbott appeared in a new teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel. The first film followed the Abbott family as they lived their lives in complete silence after mysterious creatures who hunt by sound invaded Earth. Unfortunately for Lee, he doesn't make it until the end of the first film. In order to save his two children, Lee sacrifices himself.
Viewers thought they'd seen the last Lee by the time the credits rolled on A Quiet Place, however, he appears in the Super Bowl teaser trailer for A Quiet Place: Part II. In the short teaser, Lee shows up in what appears to be a flashback sequence to the first day of the invasion. At the start of the 30-second clip, Lee approaches a police officer on a small town street in chaos.
“Ronny, what do we got?” Lee asks, to which the officer replies, “Some kind of fire. We got units headed out there now.” The incident, of course, is definitely not a fire, but rather an attack from the noise-attracted monsters. One of the creatures smashes into the officers cop cap and Lee darts back to his own car, where his daughter is waiting.
Though it comes as a surprise to see Krasinski on screen again as Lee in the sequel, fans knew he'd be returning to write the script and direct A Quiet Place: Part II. Few plot details about the highly anticipated sequel have been released. Krasinski did elaborate about the film to Deadline while he was writing the script, telling them: “The idea for it is pretty simple. I’m writing now — I don’t have it fleshed out — but the thought that occurred to me, that really excited me about it, was that most sequels are about the return of a hero or a villain. You take this character that people loved once and you bring them back, and you have to create a new world around them. We have the exact opposite setup. We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it.”
A Quiet Place Part II hits theaters on March 20.
